Michael G. Cochrane



He was the host of BNN’s Strictly Legal for three years. His other popular books include Strictly Legal II: More things you absolutely need to know about Canadian Law (Insomniac Press) and his two latest publications, Do We Need A Marriage Contract? and Do We Need A Cohabitation Agreement? (both published by Wiley). His suggestions for reform of the family courts was selected by Toronto Life magazine as one of their 2009 “25 World Changing Ideas from the Smartest Torontonians.”

As a former senior Crown Counsel in Ontario, a policy lawyer on the Ontario Family Law Act, Chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee on Class Actions and Chair of the Task Force on the Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights, Michael has been instrumental in influencing and drafting numerous pieces of important legislation.

Michael is on the OBA Executive Committee, ADR Section.

He received his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Ottawa. Michael participated in the Harvard Law School Programme in Law, Negotiation and Advanced Negotiation and was awarded a fellowship from the National Assn. of Attorneys General in Washington.

Michael is an avid golfer and is the proud 2010 McLean Cup Match Play Champion of Cedar Springs Community Club.
